For a Yamaha XSR700 cafe racer or scrambler, start with the exact motorcycle and a parts list that covers its model year. A headlight package, an unpainted body kit and a commissioned Yard Built project describe very different amounts of work. The supplier's product code matters more than the word “kit.”
This guide compares four published parts routes, explains the 2022 body and lighting changes, and uses two documented projects to show what a complete build involves. Choose the XSR700 Build Route

Yamaha's 2026 US specifications list a 689 cc twin, 17-inch road tires, 5.1 inches of suspension travel at each end, 5.5 inches of ground clearance and 410 pounds wet weight. Those dimensions help define a realistic street-scrambler brief. A different tread pattern does not supply the clearance, suspension or protection of a purpose-built off-road motorcycle.
Identify the Motorcycle Before Buying Parts
Record the VIN, model code, model year, market and existing modifications. Photograph the headlight and its stays, instrument position, radiator covers, seat mounts and exhaust. Registration year alone is insufficient, particularly for imported or previously modified bikes.
Yamaha's 2022 European factsheet documents the revised LED headlight, integrated stays, forward instrument position, switches and radiator side covers. This is a practical checkpoint for bodywork and cockpit parts. Its two-part frame description also helps explain the platform's customization potential.
Treat supplier year groups as component applications, rather than a universal interchangeability chart. Kedo lists one headlight package for 2016–2021 while some other Super7 parts have later end years. HooBue starts its earlier variant at 2017. An “XSR700 2016+” category heading does not settle either discrepancy for your bike.
Brake components need their own check. The 2022 European factsheet lists 298 mm front discs, while Yamaha's 2026 US specification page lists 282 mm. These are different market/year documents, not a basis for selecting a replacement rotor. Have the supplier or Yamaha dealer identify the correct assembly from your VIN and the fitted hardware.

JvB-moto and Kedo: Buy by Individual Product Code
The XSR700 Super7 catalog contains individual components, not one universally compatible conversion. For example, JVB0057-1 covers the earlier headlight application, whereas the JVB0034 front fender is listed through 2024. Do not copy the headlight's year range onto every other part, or assume a shared MT-07 listing makes the whole package interchangeable.
Request a combined bill of materials for your exact bike, including brackets, instrument mounting, lamp connections and any retained original hardware. Add test fitting and paint separately for unpainted items. Lamp approvals need to match the part and the market where you will use it.
C-Racer: An Unpainted Body Package
The C-Racer cafe kit includes headlight and instrument mounting pieces, a headlight mask, plate holder, radiator protection, covers, front fender and a cowl and leatherette cover for the original seat. The seller describes installation without converting the motorcycle and provides instructions and an installation video.
Its broad 2016+ label needs a written fitment answer for the later headlight and cockpit. Ask which original seat and lamp the current package expects, whether revised brackets are included, and what arrives unpainted. The package does not constitute a suspension, tire or exhaust conversion.
Ermax: A Front Fairing with Its Own Application
Ermax's 0902Z05 product page identifies a 2022–2026 cafe fairing, links installation instructions and offers several finishes. Its model catalog supplies the starting price above.
“Carbon look” is a finish description, not evidence of carbon-fiber construction. Confirm the chosen color code, screen and mounting contents, and clearance with your bars and instrument. A fairing order does not include the matching tail, seat or rider-position changes.
HooBue: A Larger Package with Lighting Decisions
The TYRANT listing separates earlier and 2022+ versions. Its contents include headlight covers, an LED headlight and wire set, a support frame, seat-area covers, an LED tail lamp with turn-signal function, plate support, front fender and radiator-area pieces. It specifies reuse of the original front-fender bracket and some original screws.
The maker describes handmade carbon parts and possible production tolerances. Include a trial assembly before finishing. Confirm the exact variant's contents, seat arrangement, connectors and required lighting functions with the supplier and installer. The stated production interval does not include international transit, customs or the shop's installation schedule.
Two Documented XSR700 Custom Projects
JvB-moto Super 7
Yamaha's Super 7 project account describes an XSR700 built without cutting or welding its frame. JvB made the body and lighting pieces, used a Daytona instrument and LSL bars, and combined a modified original fork with an Öhlins rear shock. The published project shows how the seat, covers, lamp and cockpit work together.
For a buying decision, separate that historical build from today's Kedo catalog. Yamaha's original promise that parts would become available is not a current stock statement. Use the project as a visual brief, then specify each currently listed component and any work needed to reproduce its proportions.
Rough Crafts Corsa Scorcher and Soil Scorpion
Rough Crafts published its double-style XSR700 project on January 4, 2017. The Corsa Scorcher cafe configuration and Soil Scorpion scrambler configuration share a custom foundation but change controls, wheels, intake and exhaust details. The builder credits MS Pro for fabrication of the carbon body and smaller aluminum fuel tank. Yamaha also documents the project in its Yard Built archive.
This is a coordinated custom project. The linked build accounts do not provide a current, complete XSR700 retail-kit offer or a US installation quote. Plan the Cafe-Racer Conversion in Stages
Establish the Baseline and Riding Position
Begin with service history, tires, brakes, steering bearings, suspension, charging and any outstanding recall work. Save photographs of the original routing and retain removed parts. A donor fault needs its own repair line in the quote.
Mock up the bars, seat and foot controls together. Check reach, knee angle, visibility in the mirrors, passenger use and time spent at highway speeds. Clip-ons are a change to the control layout, not just the silhouette. At full steering lock, the throttle must return freely, hoses and wiring must remain unstressed, and levers and hands must clear the tank and fairing.
Fit the Bodywork Before Paint
Assemble the complete kit with its intended lamp, instrument, seat and plate arrangement. Check fastener access, seat release, tank clearance, service access and movement at the mounts. Resolve missing brackets and conflicting panels before paying for paint or upholstery.
Keep the first version reversible where practical. A replacement tail needs a secure seat, suitable support for its intended load, tire clearance through suspension travel, and room for the required rear lights. Structural alterations need a fabricator who can specify the design and inspection work.
Coordinate Suspension, Wheels and Brakes
Choose suspension for the rider, luggage, passenger and actual roads. Ask the installer to explain the proposed spring, damping and geometry changes. Lowering a bike or extending a fork affects more than seat height; the rest of the chassis must be assessed together.
Wheel and brake work needs documented compatibility for axles, spacers, rotors, calipers, tire sizes and ABS hardware. A photograph of a successful custom does not establish that a similar wheel or fork will fit your motorcycle.
Keep a Scrambler Brief Grounded in Actual Use
Yamaha's 2022 XSR700 XTribute factsheet provides a factory reference for upright styling and Pirelli MT 60 RS block-pattern tires. Use it to discuss your intended mix of pavement and maintained gravel with a builder, rather than assuming its equipment transfers to another year or market.
For tires, confirm the rim application, size, load and speed ratings, tube requirements and clearances. For higher bars, check cable and hose reach and throttle return. For a skid plate, ask what protection the manufacturer actually claims and whether it preserves cooling and oil-service access.
A high exhaust also needs heat clearance around the rider, passenger, luggage, rear tire, brake lines and panels. These checks belong in the same mockup as the seat and rear lighting. If the goal is sustained technical off-road riding, compare the whole project with a motorcycle designed for that use before committing to fabrication.
Lighting, Exhaust and Final Checks
Ask for a wiring plan that preserves instrument warnings, charging, headlight operation, brake lights, indicators and plate lighting. Prefer documented adapters and sealed, supported connections. Match an exhaust to the bike's year, market, sensors and emissions equipment. EPA's tampering guidance explains the US restrictions on defeating emissions controls. Do not assume a European approval covers a US application or that every exhaust change requires the same ECU work. Ask the maker and tuner for the requirements of the actual combination.
The handover should include a fastener check, leak inspection, steering and control checks, brake and suspension checks, functional lighting and diagnostic checks, and a controlled road test by the responsible shop. Retain the parts list, instructions, wiring changes and follow-up inspection interval in the build file.
Turn the Parts List into a Shop Quote
A kit price covers only its stated contents. Budget separately for donor repairs, export shipping and taxes, missing hardware, trial assembly, mechanical labor, wiring, paint, upholstery, inspection and final testing. Ask who pays for corrective work when a customer-supplied part does not fit.
Use the XSR700 project brief to record the motorcycle, selected kit codes, riding position, passenger needs, finish and total spending limit. The cited sources document a custom project, without a current complete retail offer. Obtain a written parts and supply proposal from the builder before treating it as a purchasable package.
Should I buy all the parts before contacting a shop?
Send the proposed product codes first. The shop can identify incompatible parts, missing hardware and labor requirements while changes are still easy to make.
Does “bolt-on” mean finished and ready to ride?
It describes a mounting approach. Paint, electrical integration, control clearance, road-use requirements and final testing still depend on the package and motorcycle.
