Motorcycle Paint Job Cost in 2026: Published Prices for Tanks, Fairings and Full Sets

CustomAutoMoto Editorial·Published June 18, 2026·Updated September 9, 2026·3 cited references

This editorial guide is compiled from the references listed below. Prices are planning ranges unless a current official price is explicitly cited; confirm fitment, safety, legality, and availability for your exact vehicle before purchase.

Published motorcycle paint prices describe very different jobs. BlackIce Graphics lists an $800 estimate to repaint a one-piece tank and two standard fenders in one color, without repairs. Rush Bikes lists a complete standard cruiser package from $2,400 with removal and refitting included, but pigment costs extra. These are examples from specific shops, not the endpoints of a national price range. The linked table below explains the differences.

Before contacting a paint and finishing shop, list every part you want painted and whether you will deliver loose parts or a complete motorcycle. If paint belongs to a larger project, browse custom motorcycle builders and ask who handles the finish and final assembly.

Published Motorcycle Paint Prices

The following US shop prices were checked on September 9, 2026. Starting prices and estimates remain subject to the provider's assessment of your parts and design. Dollars are USD.

Published examplePrice (USD)Scope and limits
BlackIce Graphics, repaint$800 estimateOne-piece tank and two standard fenders; one color, clear and polish. No repairs; refitting is not itemized.
BlackIce Graphics, new parts$1,200 estimateThe same part count in new steel or plastic; corrosion protection, primer and a single-color finish. Refitting is not itemized.
Rush Bikes, stock tankFrom $500Listed Harley cruiser or touring tank in a standard color. Pigment is extra; confirm removal and refitting.
Rush Bikes, cruiser packageFrom $2,400Tank, two fenders and side covers. Removal and refitting included; pigment is extra.
Rush Bikes, Grand Touring packageFrom $5,400Adds bags, lids, outer fairing and rear fender extension to the cruiser pieces. Removal and refitting included; pigment is extra.

Do not compare those totals until both shops have priced the same panels, condition and finish. A package that includes installation may answer a different need from one for supplied parts. A price excluding pigment also needs a color-specific material figure before you can treat it as a project budget.

What An Hourly Paint Estimate Includes

CC Custom Coatings & Graphics publishes a $100 hourly rate for complete body-set refinishing, effective for new projects from January 1, 2026. Its three-piece tank-and-fenders baseline starts at 16 hours, plus materials. It also charges shop supplies at 5% of labor. That makes $1,600 labor plus $80 supplies, or $1,680 before liquid paint materials and other extras, calculated from the published minimum. CC Custom price guide.

The baseline is for gloss black or a comparable price-code color. It excludes bodywork, removal, refitting, tax and shipping; the hours vary with condition and design. This calculation is a starting subtotal, not a fixed quote. The shop publishes separate rates for artwork, individual parts and other work, so do not apply its complete-set rate to every task.

Ask an hourly shop for the estimated hours by task, the material allowance, additional charges and the point at which it requests approval for more work. A useful estimate lets you distinguish a change in labor hours from a more expensive color or an added panel.

Tanks, Fenders And Fairings Need A Parts List

For a tank and fender job, specify whether the tank is one piece or split, and whether side covers, an oil tank, a tail section or brackets are included. Photograph damage and previous repairs. Ask the shop to confirm what it can assess from pictures and what must wait for inspection.

For a sport bike or touring bike, list the individual fairing panels instead of requesting a full repaint without further detail. Mark the inner and outer pieces, luggage, lids, trim and any areas that will retain the original finish. Ask whether decals and badges are removed, replaced or reproduced, and who supplies replacements. The Harley-specific examples above do not establish a price for an unrelated sport bike fairing set.

If you are buying aftermarket parts, ask who checks their fit before finishing. Include that work in the estimate if you expect the painter or builder to handle it. Agree on who provides missing fasteners and how the finished parts will be packed if they are shipped back to you.

Specify Prep, Color And Artwork Separately

A description such as black tank leaves several decisions unresolved. State whether you want a new color or a match to retained panels, gloss or matte, and a plain finish or graphics. Supply references showing the look you want, while asking the shop to identify a finish system and sample you can approve.

Have the quote distinguish surface preparation from repairs, and ask what happens if the existing coating needs more work after inspection. For custom artwork, agree on its placement, the design approval stage and how revisions are charged. Confirm whether the quoted finish includes final polishing and which surfaces will be painted.

Keep the first comparison simple: request the same base finish from each shop, then price optional striping, lettering or artwork separately. You can see which choices affect the budget without losing track of the underlying paint job.

Is Wrapping Cheaper Than Painting?

Compare written quotes for the same coverage using the motorcycle wrap cost guide. Its advertised examples cover different services, so a graphics package cannot stand in for the cost of changing every visible surface. Ask each provider to inspect the existing finish and state any preparation or repair charge.

Include installation, removal of existing graphics and the specific areas left uncovered in the comparison. If you plan to do part of the work yourself, ask which tasks the provider will accept you doing and how that changes its quote. The professional examples here do not provide a verified DIY materials budget.

Send A Brief And Agree On Handover

Use the build brief creator to describe your motorcycle, current condition, intended finish, budget and timing. Add your panel list, photos and color references when you contact the shop. State whether it will receive the complete bike or loose parts, and ask for a written list of inclusions and exclusions.

Before collection, ask the provider for finish-specific instructions on refitting, washing, polishing and fuel exposure, plus any warranty terms. Agree on how you will inspect the color, graphics, edges and assembly against the approved scope. For a larger motorcycle project, make clear which shop is responsible for the finished bike's handover.
