Specify the interior work before comparing shops
An interior can involve upholstery, seat repair, panel construction, trim fitting and electrical work. Ask who owns each part of the job, especially when the vehicle builder and upholstery specialist are different businesses.
Seat repair or retrim
Define whether the job concerns covers, foam, frames or a complete seat. Include photos of damage and the intended seating position.
Ask the shop: Are removal, fitting and any repairs underneath the cover included?
Original-style interior
Specify the materials, patterns, colors, carpet, headliner and trim you want reproduced. Ask to review physical samples and any unavoidable substitutions.
Ask the shop: Which existing parts will be reused, and how will replacement materials be matched?
Custom interior design
Coordinate seat shape, door panels, console, dashboard, carpet and lighting as one project. Approve the design and material samples before fabrication and final stitching.

Prepare an upholstery inquiry
- List each seat, panel and trim piece, with photos, dimensions where requested, and the condition of the underlying structure.
- Describe the material and design you want. Request samples and a clear record of the agreed color, pattern and finish.
- Separate cover work from foam, frame, panel and mounting repairs. Identify sound insulation and electrical work separately.
- Ask who removes and reinstalls the interior, and who checks retained controls, seat equipment and fitment afterward.
- Confirm whether the shop accepts an interior-only job, which work goes to partners, and the deposit and scheduling terms.
Before you contact a shop
Will a custom car builder accept an interior-only job?
Some shops offer upholstery as a separate service; others coordinate it within a complete build. Ask about your exact scope before assuming a shop will accept a seat recover or a partial retrim. The comparison distinguishes documented in-house departments from credited partners.
Does every shop here make its own upholstery?
No. For example, the reviewed BBT and Kindig-it projects name outside upholstery specialists. Their entries preserve those credits. Other directory listings remain marked as scope to confirm until service-specific evidence is checked.
How do I compare custom interior quotes?
Give each shop the same list of components and agreed material specification. Compare panel fabrication, foam and frame work, removal, fitting, specialist labor and electrical work separately. A full custom cabin is a different scope from replacing seat covers.
Can I use these listings for a motorcycle seat?
Use the motorcycle filter and confirm seat-pan dimensions, mounting, foam shape, materials and installation. Some results are parts suppliers or complete motorcycle builders; a seat product or finished motorcycle does not establish a separate upholstery service.
