Power testing, calibration or a complete package?
A dyno appointment can mean measuring the vehicle, renting equipment or paying a tuner to change its calibration. Start with the result you need and ask the shop to identify the work and equipment included.
Baseline power testing
A test records how the vehicle performs in the stated test conditions. It does not, by itself, include ECU changes or establish the condition of every mechanical system.
Ask the shop: What runs, air/fuel measurements, graphs and test conditions will be recorded and supplied?
Dyno tuning or ECU calibration
Give the shop the exact model, engine, modifications, fuel and ECU or tuning device. Ask which calibration work it can perform on that combination.
Ask the shop: Are equipment time, tuner labor, software access and follow-up revisions included in the estimate?
Rental or performance package
Dyno rental may require a separately arranged tuner. A hardware package may include calibration and testing only for eligible vehicles receiving the full upgrade.
Ask the shop: Who performs the tuning, and can this service be purchased on its own for my vehicle?
Prepare a tuning inquiry
- Provide the vehicle year, model, engine, transmission and drive layout, plus the ECU or tuning device and any existing calibration details.
- List the installed hardware and fuel you intend to use. Explain whether the goal is diagnosis, a baseline, drivability changes or calibration after modifications.
- Confirm that the shop's dyno setup fits your vehicle and that its tuner supports your exact ECU and software version.
- Request separate prices for inspection, setup or rental, tuner labor, software licenses, repairs and any agreed follow-up work.
- Agree on the preparation requirements, approval process for unexpected issues, and the graphs, files or settings records supplied at handover.
Before you contact a shop
How do I find dyno tuning near me?
Choose a state, search a city or use a city link, then filter for the documented service you need. Confirm the location and vehicle compatibility before travelling. The directory is a selected list and does not use your device location or claim to show every nearby tuner.
Are baseline pulls the same as a dyno tune?
No. Evasive's reviewed service page describes power-testing runs, while Full Detail separately describes power pulls and dyno rental. Those entries do not establish that a complete custom calibration is included. Ask who will tune the vehicle and what that labor covers.
Can every listed shop tune my ECU or an AWD vehicle?
No. Published equipment and ECU details are shown where the reviewed source specifies them. Evasive lists both 2WD and AWD testing; Iron Motorcycle Performance names ThunderMax tuning. Confirm your exact vehicle and ECU with the business, especially where the source does not name a dyno model or software platform.
Does a performance build prove that a shop accepts standalone tunes?
No. The Hennessey example documents calibration and chassis-dyno work within a vehicle upgrade package. The entry is classified as a package, with separate tuning-only availability left for direct confirmation. General custom-build photos are not used as proof of a tuning service.
